Non slip covers embraced by Totnes

Totnes on the Move is one of three transport initiatives in Devon (Exeter and Exmouth, Newton Abbott and Kingsteignton and Totnes & Environs) who will share £4.9M of Local Sustainable Transport Funding from the Department for Transport, secured in 2011 by Devon County Council and allocated over a 4-year period.

Totnes on the Move is the only project that is fully community-led and which has had huge input from MAG members. Motorcycling is so mportant to any urban area blighted by congestion because the use of 2 wheels instead of 4 reduces congestion, improves air quality for all and improves journey times. But although motorcycling can play a huge part in improving things socially and environmentally, it is often overlooked by highways authorities, both in design and maintenance, which is where GET A GRIP! comes in.

Due to the work of MAG members and inparticular Alan Langmaid, we are delighted to announce that non-slip composite manhole covers are being introduced to the town starting on the A358 as part of resurfacing works. Safe for all road users, cheaper maintenance costs and of no interest to scrap metal theives, composite non-slip covers make sense. Now that Totnes is aware of powered two wheelers as a user group and are embracing the new technologies available, we are sure the town will continue to embrace all the benefits of motorcycling to keep Totnes on the move!
